Silvicultural assessment of enrichment planting with commercial tree species after selective logging

چکیده

The integrity of forest stands in logging concessions depends on the method. Selective is most commonly used method tropics, disturbing a considerable proportion soil and canopy cover creating distinct sites for plant establishment. objective this study was to evaluate silvicultural requirements terms light moisture seedlings some commercial tree species enrichment planting. This carried out two Forest Management Units East Region shade house at University Buea campus South West Cameroon. 15 20 exploited were selected assessment their seedling functional performance. Nineteen log yards with corresponding skid trails randomly Monthly height measurements recorded 34 months. experiment had an unbalanced factorial incorporating moisture. growth rate significantly higher (3.8 cm/month) least under (1.2 cm/month). highest high Pterocarpus soyauxii (13.3 low Entandrophragma cylindricum (0.7 Mortality (11.1%) (0%). results indicated that should be planted according during planting stage  sustainable management.   Key words: Enrichment planting, yards, trails, house, canopy.

Phylogenetic ecology applied to enrichment planting of tropical native tree species

Enrichment planting within established plantations or secondary forests is a common strategy to enhance forest recovery, given that later successional forest species tend to have low dispersal and limited recruitment into these sites. It is difficult, however, to predict how species of seedlings will perform when planted under different overstory species. The field of phylogenetic ecology offer...

Species for Christmas Tree Planting in Virginia*

Christmas trees can be grown through out the state, and growers are located in all regions. Se lec tion of the proper species, however, is important. Soil conditions and gen er al climate are the primary considerations influencing species selection, but other characteristics, such as con sum er pref er ence, species characteristics and require ments, condition of the planting site, and the pres...

Selective logging in tropical forests decreases the robustness of liana-tree interaction networks to the loss of host tree species.

Selective logging is one of the major drivers of tropical forest degradation, causing important shifts in species composition. Whether such changes modify interactions between species and the networks in which they are embedded remain fundamental questions to assess the 'health' and ecosystem functionality of logged forests. We focus on interactions between lianas and their tree hosts within pr...

Selective logging: does the imprint remain on tree structure and composition after 45 years?

Selective logging of tropical forests is increasing in extent and intensity. The duration over which impacts of selective logging persist, however, remains an unresolved question, particularly for African forests. Here, we investigate the extent to which a past selective logging event continues to leave its imprint on different components of an East African forest 45 years later. We inventoried...

Recruitment, growth and recovery of commercial tree species over 30years following logging and thinning in a tropical rain forest

Sustainable production of timber from commercial species across felling cycles is a core challenge for tropical silviculture. In this study, we analysed how the intensity and type (harvesting and thinning) of silvicultural interventions affect: (a) recruitment of small stems (5 cm 6 DBH < 15 cm), (b) increment of future crop trees (15 cm 6 DBH < 50 cm) and (c) recovery of harvestable growing st...
